Since its founding in 1871, Maison P. Jobin et Cie has always focused in delivering a high standard service and a full range of coffees to its customers.

Neumann Kaffee Gruppe

In 2007, Maison P. Jobin et Cie has joined Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG), the first world group in green coffee trading. This association has improved and reinforced our ability to meet the needs of French roasters.

Localization

Our headquarters are located in Le Havre and we have offices in Bordeaux and Marseilles, allowing us to be active in the three historical places for coffee trading in France. From there we are able to provide tailor made deliveries all over the country.

Associations

We are members of the French Chapter of the Specialty Coffee Association, and of Collectif Café, the main professional federation representing all actors of the supply chain.

Our History

An overview

Creation

Maison P. Jobin et Cie was founded in 1871, originally located in Rouen, the company has been transferred to Le Havre in 1900. At this time, 4 million bags of coffee were lying in the warehouses of Le Havre. Those coffees were mainly imported from Brazil, suffering from overproduction, by trading houses.

Distribution to the internal market was done by importers/retailers who were buying from dealers holding stocks in warehouses. The links between the numerous dealers and importers were obtained through brokers bringing samples with horse-drawn vehicles.

Jobin’s customers were more than three thousand, most of them small retailers roasting in front of their doors. That is the root of our permanent concern to match our customers’ requirements. Without telephones and motorcars, business was concluded by agents travelling by train all over the country. Sales were added up once they were back in the office. The first phone of Maison P. Jobin et Cie was installed in 1935 and was used only for local communications.

Then, after the war, restrictions in importations of coffee affected activity until 1950, when constraints were abandoned, and in 1954 the futures market could reopen enabling trade to develop again in reasonable conditions. Of course, Maison P. Jobin has also managed to adapt to new business conditions and all necessary tools to fit the new business world have been established.

Maison P. Jobin et Cie pursued its activity and development by itself until 1988 when Jobin Family decided to sell the company as nobody from the family were ready to manage the company.

Maison P. Jobin was bought by E. Raoul-Duval S.A. a coffee and cocoa dealer also based in Le Havre since 1826. After 20 years of successful activity. E. Raoul-Duval decided to sell coffee business as it was no longer part of its strategy for future and the need of a stronger shareholder was necessary to cope with growing volumes and financial requirements.

Discussions with NKG started from there and the deal was finalized in March 2007.
